It’s no secret that I love professional wrestling.

Growing up, my favorite wrestlers were Shawn Michaels and The Rock. Shawn left wrestling in 1998 because of a severe back injury. When that happened, The Rock was on the verge of becoming something huge. By the end of 1998, he was the hottest thing in pro wrestling. As a 13 year old kid, he was everything I wanted to be: Good looking, charismatic, with an ability to hold tens of thousands of people in the palm of his hand in an arena, and millions (and millions) more at home. Truly, The Rock was a hero.

Fast forward 18 (insert frowny emoji or better yet “where has my life gone” emoji) later, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is still a guy I look up to. Now however, it’s more about the encouragement and positivity he tries to spread to his fans.

Which brings me to the title of this post.

The Rock’s Instagram Account Is (I really hate this capital I, but it won’t let me make it a lowercase I. Insert frustrated emoji here. Also, longest parenthetical ever) full of the phrase “Find you anchor”. For Rock, it’s all about the gym. Regardless of where he is in the world, he always finds time to get to the gym and get in a good workout. It helps him focus on the upcoming day and gives him the energy to do what he does.
To quote the man himself:

No magic formula or secret to success.

I’m up at 4am daily and puttin’ in the hard work that I already know my competition is not willin’ to do.

If they’re willin’ to get up at 4, then you bet your ass I’m gettin’ up at 3. And if they’re willin’ to get up at 3am, then well… I’ll be gettin’ up at 2:59 cause that’s just bullshit.

I don’t pretend to do it. I do it. Daily.

It’s my anchor and will always be my edge over my competition.

You don’t have to wake up at the ass crack of 4am dawn to find your anchor. Whatever it is that gives you “your edge” over everyone around you – then that’s what you do.

You find it, you apply it and you protect it. Whether it’s your co-workers, teammates, classmates or business associates.. the #AnchorPhilosophy applies to every facet of our lives.

Picture your perfect world scenario. What you want most out of life. Now, take all the excuses and “what-ifs” away and focus. Go after whatever it is you want most out of your life with reckless abandonment. And above else, find the thing that separates you from the rest of your competition, make that your anchor, and go hard at it every day.

As always, I write these blogs more as a wake up call to myself than to you. I’ve previously let self doubt and excuses take my time up. I’ve allowed laziness and comfortablilty to rob me of my anchor sometimes. And I won’t say it won’t do it again. But I will tell you that I’m not going to roll over and allow it to happen anymore. I won’t allow circumstances to keep me from achieving what it is I want. I hope you won’t either.

Find that thing that makes you – you. Find that passion and hold on to it; cultivate it. Outwork everyone else in the room and success will follow.

Anchors away, everyone. I’m rooting for you.
